I am Tristan Williams, otherwise known as Overlord Altrumos.
I am a wizard, artificer, and bard from Kentucky.
What am I doing?
My work consists of a web of related projects. Each is a component of one big unified thing I've been doing most of my life and have only just begun to formalize in recent years.
Broad goals
- Understand the fundamental nature of things.
- Understand how things connect.
- Reach a high intermediate level in every major academic and professional area.
- Use cross-domain knowledge to make better things.
OAGOF: Overlord Altrumos General Ontology Framework
If you count the time before I began formalizing my projects, this is my oldest project. The process of this project is the thing my brain does every moment of every day: classify everything, find how everything relates, and use that knowledge to form a base from which a system can be built.
- OAMP: Overlord Altrumos Metaontological Procedure
- OACO: Overlord Altrumos Core Ontology.
- OAMMO: Overlord Altrumos Modular Middle Ontology.
- OADOS: Overlord Altrumos Domain Ontology Suite.
OASA: Overlord Altrumos School of Archgeneralism
- OAAC: Overlord Altrumos Archgeneralism Curriculum
The Hypl Foundation
Exploring new paradigms of computing and productivity with hypergraphs/metagraphs/ubergraphs (too many names for the same damn thing) as the fundamental substrate.
- Hyplang: A Lisp-inspired language that works on hypergraphs instead of atoms and lists.
- Hypl OS: An operating system built on hypergraphs.
- Hypl: An Emacs-inspired user interface for Hypl OS.
- Hypl IKPS: Information, Knowledge, and Productivity System.
- HyplDoc: A markup format.
- HypLLM: A memory system.
-
CAVA: Codex Arcanus Vivens Altrumeus
My personal implementation of Hypl IKPS. A spiritual successor to my "forever folder" that I lost after 13 years. Instead of trying to rebuild what I had, I'm building what I've dreamed of.
-
[UNNAMED FUTURE COMPANY]
A software engineering firm focused on manufacturing job shops.
- [UNNAMED PRODUCT]: A heuristic quoting tool that quotes faster than anything else. Based on an internal tool used for 14 years. Gets out of your way. Few screens and menus. Doesn't track everything. Doesn't have integrations. On purpose.
-
Inadvisable Creations
A game studio dedicated to the development of the most complex games ever made.
- [UNNAMED GAME]: Space 4X / Grand Strategy game.
-
Worldbuilding
Exploring the possibilities of other universes.
- Woodheart: A liquid universe without gravity in which "planets" are organisms and we live on this inside.
- Tormhaven: An infinite plane with the sun halfway in the ground.
- [UNNAMED WORLD]: A loosely-bound feudal society spanning cosmic filaments.
- [UNNAMED WORLD]: An alt-history Earth.
What are my values?
Details matter
Ignoring details means you get things wrong. It costs extra effort, money, and pain to fix later. It costs productivity over the long term. Maybe it never gets fixed.
Put some time in now to understand the implications of your decisions, even for the small things. Don't worry about it taking a little longer. We're going too fast.
Values matter
It is good to consider your values, ethics, and generally how everything you do affects others. It is bad to ignore those things. There is nowhere in which you can say "this is just X, values don't apply here". You should consider far-reaching effects, not just the immediate.
Violation of autonomy is the root of evil
This includes but is not limited to parasitism, predation, abuse, tyrany, and bigotry.
Defense against evil is not evil
People who do the work should make the profit
Work should be about more than profit
The commons should be accessible to all
Give what you can do without.
What are my (US-specific) political positions?
- Everyone needs to start defining their terms in political conversation, because there are several major political camps and they all use words totally different and it's confusing for everyone but nobody seems to notice.
- Replace first past the post with ranked-choice single-transferrable vote.
- Make congressional districts multi-seat with proportional seat allocation.
- Grow the number of congressional seats with the cube root of the population.
- Encode the right to referendum and citizen initiative in a constitutional amendment.
- Consecutive-term limits for congress.
- Abolish "rider" bills (single-subject rule).
- Require congress to publish a proposed bill some minimum time before voting on it.
- Abolish the Hastert Rule.
- Abolish voice votes in congress. All votes recorded.
